The Daintree rainforest is one of the most complex tropical rainforest ecosystems on Earth.

It`s also one of the most biodiverse rainforests, continuously evolving and growing, living and breathing for over 180 million years - the Daintree is a unique and remarkable wonder πŸ’š.

It makes sense that many of us want to preserve it.

If you are feeling it too, consider becoming a Rainforest Guardian: https://www.rainforestrescue.org.au/rainforest-guardians (link in bio) πŸ’š.

#CritterCorner: Did you know that Hercules Moths (Coscinocera hercules) don`t eat?

Well, they can`t because they don`t have mouths 😢.

As adult moths, they survive on food stores that they ate prior to metamorphosis πŸ›πŸ¦‹.

Hercules Moths spend most of their lives as caterpillars, and during that time they live on food plants such as the Bleeding heart (Homalanthus novoguineensis), Red bean trees (Dysoxylum mollissimum subsp. molle) and Cheese trees (Glochidion ferdinandi) 🌿.

`The weather conditions following Cyclone Jasper devastated the Far North Queensland region and the local communities. The area is still recovering, and people are going to continue to need our help - there are several local initiatives you can support.

Read more online: www.rainforestrescue.org.au/cyclone-jasper (visit the News section on our website) πŸ’š.

Another great way to support our local community is to visit the Daintree. Now, as local businesses begin to reopen and local attractions are becoming accessible again, we`re excited to welcome travellers and adventurers back to the stunning beaches and magical forests of the Wet Tropics region πŸ’š.

#CritterCorner: Tree kangaroos are unique macropods found only in the rainforests of Far North Queensland and Papua New Guinea. In Australia we have two endemic species, the Bennett’s Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus bennettianus) and the Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo (Dendrolagus lumholtzi), that live in the rainforest of Far North Queensland and NOWHERE ELSE in the world.

They are pretty special!

Interestingly, Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos are not nocturnal and they are active day and night (cathemeral) and will cross roads and paddocks to find new territories.

Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos are endemic to Wet Tropics Rainforests in far north Qld - south of the Daintree River down to Cardwell ranges, found mostly on the Atherton Tablelands and classified as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN Red List.

Discover more about Bennett`s and Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos on our website: rainforestrescue.org.au/critter-corner-tree-kangaroos (link in bio) πŸ’š.

Alternatively, you can get in touch with our friends at @treeroorescue: www.treeroorescue.org.au

Businesses can power change. And many are πŸ’š.

Together with our business partners, we have rescued hundreds of thousands of square metres of unprotected Daintree Rainforest and planted as many trees to repair damaged lowland rainforest. And we love talking about our extraordinary supporters like @Klorane, hearing more about what drives their conservation efforts.

Together with @kloranebotanicalfoundation, we sprouted 50,000 seedlings at our new native nursery, reclaimed 1.8 Ha of Lot 41 Cape Tribulation Rd, and, in a delightful twist, watched Arnaud Vaillant, Klorane`s Chief of Finance and Operations Australia, get his hands dirty and put trees into the ground alongside our community.

We chatted with Arnaud about the culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility, Green Advocate for Australia and a lot more, all of which you can find on our website: rainforestrescue.org.au/personal-commitment-collective-impact-with-kloranes-arnaud-vaillant (head over to the News section) πŸ’š.

Your business can support Rainforest Rescue’s Partners for Protection program in a variety of ways with tier partnerships, sponsorships, company events, workplace giving, monthly gifts and direct donations: rainforestrescue.org.au/businesses (link in bio)πŸ’š.

Today marks our 25th anniversary!

Between 1999 and 2024, with YOUR support, we have…

πŸ’š Rescued 45 properties in Australia totalling 2,031,514 square metres of rainforest
🌏 Protected 32 of the rescued properties forever by achieving Nature Refuge status
🌳 Planted 353,412 trees including over 320,000 trees planted in Australia
🌱 Increased our capacity to propagate by building the Daintree’s largest Native Nursery

Thank you πŸ™πŸ‘

Together, we will make this year the BIGGEST ever for the rainforests. To borrow a phraseβ€œThe better time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. The best time is now.”

#CritterCorner: Shortly after hatching, baby cassowaries are able to walk almost immediately, and have long, pale yellowish-brown legs and no helmet-like casque on the tops of their heads yet.

They are born striped and between 3 and 6 months juvenile cassowaries begin to lose their stripes, gaining a more uniform brown appearance.

By 3-4 years of age, they will have gained their full adult colours.

Young cassowaries follow their cassowary father for about 9 - 18 months to learn the ropes, before facing the world on their own. Well, the Daintree, which is their world πŸ’š.

The Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) is listed as `Endangered` under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Help us protect their world: rainforestrescue.org.au/rainforest-guardians (link in bio) πŸ’š.
