Research Australia regularly contributes to the policy discussions on issues pertinent to Health and Medical Research. This can be through submissions or participating in consultations.
The following lists both consultations and invitations to make submissions which are relevant to health and medical research and/or health and innovation policy in Australia. Research Australia updates this regularly but we may not participate in every one listed.

QLD Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy
Due 13 May |
The Queensland Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy is being developed with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders. The draft strategy recognises the importance of evidence and research in the Strategy’s principles and objectives but provides little information about how research and evidence will be used- this should be outlined in the next stage of development, where actions are identified. Feedback to the current stage of the consultation can be provided via a survey. |
Immigration- Review of the Points Test
Due 24 May |
The Government’s Migration Strategy was released on 11 December 2023.
One of the key areas of future reform outlined in the Migration Strategy is to explore a reformed points test to better identify migrants to drive Australia’s long-term prosperity. Proposed changes to how qualifications achieved overseas and in Australia have potential implications for the health and research workforces and for international students. Submissions can be made online. |
Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in HMR

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Consumers Health Forum of Australia Ltd (CHF) are collaborating to review the 2016 Statement on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health and Medical Research (the Statement).
The Statement aims to support consumer and community involvement across all types and levels of health and medical research. It articulates the importance and benefits of consumer and community involvement in research, and discusses a series of implementation issues. A position paper is available to guide input on what should be included in the revised Statement and you can share your views by completing the online survey. |
