Cumberland Gang Show - Rise Up 2021 Appeal
Cumberland Gang Show has been providing top-quality family entertainment and industry-standard training in the performing arts to the Scouts and Guides of western Sydney since 1970.
Our vision is made up of three distinct aspects:
- Providing top-quality entertainment
- Training Scouts and Guides in all aspects of theatre, both on and off stage
- Promoting Scouting and Guiding to the wider public
In 2020 our show was postponed because of the emerging COVID 19 outbreak. Our teams worked tirelessly to plan an alternative performance in November 2020. Unfortunately, this was not to be and our 2020 show was ultimately cancelled.
In March 2021 our cast and crew again began working and rehearsing Rise Up (the name prophetically chosen in 2019). During our rehearsal season, we adapted to many challenges including finding a new rehearsal venue, changing COVID restrictions including mask wearing and even cancelling a rehearsal due to extreme weather and flooding.
In June 2021 the NSW government began announcing tighter restrictions in response to the growing COVID19 outbreak in the Eastern Suburbs. Our backstage teams began bumping into the theatre on June 25th. At 2pm on June 26th, the NSW Premier announced a lockdown commencing that evening for 14 days, wiping out our dress rehearsals and almost all of our performances.
As a result of the ongoing lockdown in Greater Sydney our 2021 show has been cancelled.
Cumberland Gang Show is a non-profit organisation that exists to train Scouts and Guides the performing arts. The cancellation of our shows in 2020 and 2021 has had a huge impact on our financial position and our ability to continue into the future.
