"We are Te Puna Ora o Te Iwi"

Ko wai mātau? Who are we?

Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho Ake Trust is a leadership organisation, established by Ngāti Whakaue to achieve the aspirations of the Iwi in the areas of education, language and well-being.

It is a vehicle to drive development in social determinants that we deem are important to us. Through understanding the needs of our people and partnering with like-minded organisations we have developed a range of innovative projects resulting in significant shifts in the determinants of well-being for our people and the community within which we live.

Today we engage with and deliver high quality, whānau-focussed programmes and services to hundreds of whānau, rangatahi, tamariki and pēpi. Our team of over 40 people live and breathe our values of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, ahi kaa, whakamana and tino rangatiratanga.

Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Iho-Ake Trust Chaired by Marg Maniapoto, with trustees Anahera Waru, Mokonuiarangi Kingi, Aroha Hicks, Anahera Katipa, Parewahaika Harris, Frances Whareahi and Koeke Trustees, Vicki -Mae Bhana and Leo Rika.

Ngāti Whakaue Iho, Ngāti Whakaue Ake

Ngāti Whakaue Tangata, Ngāti Whakaue Tikanga

These kupu which were born from a series of hui held by our iwi in the early 2000’s are now used to remind us, to anchor us, to centre us and bring us back to what our purpose as Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue is.

Since our establishment in 2005, Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue continues to work on making Mokopuna Decisions that sometimes have immediate effect, but others which are part of the intergenerational vision and pathway set down by our Tūpuna that will make differences for the generations to come.  Whether this be a paepae multiple rows deep, or our iwi members being healthy of mind, body and spirit, or our whānau regardless of where they live in this world knowing who they are and where they come from.

As we move forward, as Ngāti Whakaue we are sure of where we want to be, and we are also clear on how we will get there.  Again, our Tūpuna have left us a clear map, and as your Te Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue we will continue to follow the pathway set down previously, we will refine, we will adapt and we will ensure that decisions we make fulfil the moemoea of our iwi.
