What is the Mentoring for Growth program

Mentoring for Growth (M4G) offers eligible businesses free access to volunteer business experts who provide insights, options and suggestions relating to challenges and opportunities you are experiencing in your business. The program has been running for nearly 20 years.

The M4G program assists Queensland businesses to grow and succeed in the current business environment. When a small business participates in the M4G program, the Queensland Government matches its mentors' expertise and experience with the business challenge or opportunity the business has identified.

Mentors are drawn from a Queensland-wide pool of more than 250 registered mentors. All mentors have expertise and experience in coaching and/or developing businesses.

Mentoring for Growth is currently being delivered online only. The program is available to businesses across Queensland.

Mentoring for Growth is looking for new volunteer business mentors

Do you have business knowledge and experience and want to contribute to the success of other Queensland businesses? The Queensland Government's Mentoring for Growth (M4G) program is currently recruiting for new business mentors to join their program, which has successfully mentored Queensland businesses for nearly 20 years.

M4G mentors are business and industry specialists who volunteer their time, knowledge and expertise to help Queensland small business owners overcome challenges and identify opportunities through free mentoring sessions coordinated by the Queensland Government’s M4G team. Sessions can run for 45-90 minutes and the mentors are matched to small businesses based on their business skills and knowledge.

Mentoring can be very rewarding for the mentors as well as the mentees. This is what a few of the current M4G mentors had to say on why they love being a mentor:

  • Mentoring is a great way to assist other small businesses to succeed while at the same time learning from them as well. You can also build a network of business contacts for the future success of your own business through mutual relationships with mentees and other mentors,Gerard Byrne, mentor since 2018.
  • I have been a M4G mentor for seven years, and the program has connected me to a bunch of really great people and taken me places I would not have gone – I have facilitated workshops, spoken on stage and been on roadshows all over regional Queensland. We need other mentors who have knowledge, passion and skills to share,Angie Hammond, mentor since 2014.
  • Allocating a portion of your time as a mentor is a grounding and humbling experience. It can also be an inspirational one too. M4G offers a unique opportunity to connect, network and learn from other business owners within industries and sectors that may be completely different from your own. Being a mentor keeps you on your toes, but it also helps to ensure that you stay current with your finger on the pulse,” Canio Muscillo, mentor since 2019.

Registrations for the current recruitment round are now open, and close at 5pm on 31 October 2021.
