Cr James Mackay: Complete the Indro Bikeway now!

In October 2022 we launched a campaign for safe and separated bike lanes on Lambert Rd. After years of inaction, it took our campaign less than 6 months to get Council to commit to installing bike lanes from the Riverwalk to Fairley St.

Unfortunately, Council’s proposal won’t fully connect to the St Lucia Esplanade bikeway and it likely won’t get done for years, as they haven’t committed any money for design or construction. The only thing stopping Council from working on this route connection is political will. So we’re taking to the streets with a community bike ride to tell Cr James Mackay: complete the Indro bikeway now!

Please join us for a relaxed ride from Ambrose Treacy College in Indooroopilly to Robertson Park in Taringa. On the way, you’ll cycle through some pop-up bike lanes we’ve created on Lambert Rd, to show just how easy it would be for Council to start on the bikeway. At the park, hear from a few speakers and have a coffee on me from coffee cart Hetty & Herms.

People of all ages and confidence levels riding bicycles, scooters, and other micromobility options are welcome. We’ll have marshalls on the day to help guide riders. Feel free to join for just the ride, or just the coffee catchup afterwards.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

8:30am: Meet at the corner of Bridge St and Twigg St, Indooroopilly

8:40am: Ride begins

9:00am: Arrive at Robertson Park for speeches about the bikeway, free coffee from the Hetty & Herms cart, and a catch-up with your neighbours

If you’d like to volunteer at this event, please reach out via email to [email protected].

MORE ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

We’re pushing for Council to complete the Indooroopilly Bikeway. This would involve a separated lanes linking the Indooroopilly Riverwalk with the St Lucia Esplanade Bikeway via Lambert Rd. Cr James Mackay is currently proposing building the bikeway only half the way and has secured no funding in the recent Council budget for design. We’re hosting this event to urge Council to fund and begin preliminary design work now, in order to fully complete this missing link before 2026.

This bikeway extension would encourage more people to leave their car at home, including families at local schools and people who cycle to Indooroopilly Station and the University of Queensland. You can find out more and get in touch with decision makers at www.michaelberkman.com.au/indrobikeway
