National Library’s Literacy and Learning Directorate sits within the Information and Knowledge Services branch, the Department’s epicentre of information management, culture and heritage.
Services to Schools is looking for an exceptional person to join our nationwide team of Capability Facilitators. They will be part of the Literacy and Learning team based at National Library Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa in Wellington. This full-time permanent position will support Wellington and surrounding areas, along with contributing to national services.
The role of Facilitators is to develop capability in the library and education sectors with an emphasis on our priority areas of reading engagement, school library development, digital literacy and culture and heritage.
This is achieved through: • delivery of Professional Development • developing capability in school communities through providing advice and facilitation • developing resources which support capability building • working in collaboration with others to develop library services for young people.
Our team of Facilitators come from a range of professional backgrounds with both teaching and library qualifications and experience.
We welcome applications for people with: • Teaching and/or library experience and qualifications. • Excellent communication, facilitation, advocacy and presentation skills which enable them to engage with Principals, teachers and school library staff to effect change • Deep interest and knowledge in any or all of our priority areas of reading engagement, school library development, digital literacy and culture and heritage • An understanding of the diverse communities of Aotearoa with te reo Māori an advantage • A full Driver’s License is essential.

Library Manager Full time, term time plus 15 days term breaks (negotiable)
Rangitoto College School
New Zealand’s largest Secondary School is seeking an experienced Library Manager who has in-depth knowledge and understanding of a library and its purpose within an educational environment. Our library supports staff and students with curriculum, literacy, and information literacy. We are looking for a person who has a vision of how a modern library will develop to meet future learning needs. This full-time 40 hours (8.30 am to 5 pm, flexible with colleagues) in term time with 15 days (negotiable) in term breaks for strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities
Play a lead role in library strategic planning and ensure this is aligned with the Rangitoto College School Board strategic plan
Ensure that all library staff are appropriately trained and have regular access to professional development
Keep up to date with developments in the library field
Manage the library team with appropriate delegations
Document Library Procedures
Prepare budget proposal with the assistance of library staff.
Provide high quality resources, including online, that meet the reading and information needs of the school community
Provide access to online resources by providing up-to-date links on the school intranet
Encourage all library users to participate in collection development
Maintain regular contact with professional networks and external agencies e.g. SLANZA and The National Library of New Zealand
Report regularly to school senior management on progress towards objectives in library strategic plan
Manage and monitor the library budget using appropriate financial controls in accordance with school practice.
Support the development of information literacy
Plan and implement the library orientation programme
Provide appropriate support for teachers undertaking research assignments with their classes
Ensure students and Staff receive the appropriate help in the library
Facilitate the Supervision and training of Student Librarians and Duke of Edinburgh service students
Co-ordinate library usage by school community groups
The position requires the successful applicant to:
Read a wide range of fiction, particularly Young Adult fiction
Support the development of information literacy
Be involved with strategic planning to help develop library services that meet the changing needs of our community
Work well as part of a team
Help develop library procedures
Choose and process resources
Work with and train student librarians and has
A passion to work with young people
Library and Information Studies degree (BA or BAppSci)
RLIANZA professional registration
Sound IT skills, Oliver LMS would be an advantage although training will be provided

Previous experience working in a library is desirable but not essential. This is a permanent position, school term time only, plus a few days in the school holidays. Hours are negotiable.
