Sumners Road interchange upgrade
The $80 million Sumners Road Interchange Upgrade became fully operational to the travelling public 6 months ahead of schedule in mid-March 2021.
The upgrade significantly reduces congestion and improves safety at this important intersection. It also improves connectivity and accessibility for people who ride bikes and people who walk.

Key features
The Sumners Road Interchange Upgrade includes:
- new signalised intersections that replaced the 2 roundabouts
- a new 2-lane eastbound bridge
- demolition of the existing bridge and replacement with a new 4-lane westbound bridge with provisions for pedestrians and active transport users
- a cycle track as an underpass below the western intersection that links up with the Centenary Motorway Bikeway.
