Minkey (K to 4)

Minkey 2024 β€πŸΊπŸ‘

Minkey (Kindy to Yr 4) is an original Hockey Australia initiative driven by Westside Wolves and supported by Hockey Australia and Hockey WA. Minkey was developed to introduce children to a modified version of full field Hockey. The smaller fields and mixed teams allow players to develop good hockey and team skills prior to playing full field hockey in Year 5. Westside Wolves Minkey is held on Saturday mornings at College Park, Princess Road Claremont.

The Westside Wolves Minkey program at College Park is thought to be the largest in Australia with over 20 local schools delivering 50 plus teams and has been running for nearly 30 years.

Developing good spirit of the game is paramount and therefore there is no ladder or scoring. It is essential that players parents and coaches remember that this may be the first time for many children in a team sport and so it needs to be a positive experience.

We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our Minkey Maestros from last season and introducing our fine game to some new comers.

  • Coaches who have had some experience but need to broaden their range of skills, drills etc.

  • Highly experienced coaches interested in fine tuning their coaching skills and/or developing their mentoring/leadership of junior coaches and/or participating in HockeyWA state & pathways programs.

CONTINUING THIS SEASON KINDY/PRE-PRIMARY Skills-based sessions

After the success of the 2023 kindy and pre-primary skills-based sessions, we will be continuing in 2024. This will be held at 9am each Saturday for the duration of the Minkey season.

No teams are necessary, all registrations will be taken on an individual basis. Parents are encouraged to assist. This is a great way to introduce your child to hockey skills in a fun and age-appropriate manner. Registrations can be found at the same link as normal player registrations above.

All children will be required to bring their own stick, mouthguard and shinpads.  Parents or guardians must remain at the ground during the session and must sign their child in and out at the beginning and end of the session.
