The nationally recognised Certificate IV in Mental Health qualification equips you with job-ready skills to build a meaningful profession in this important field.
You’ll gain valuable professional experience through an 80 hour work placement which will allow you to put your theoretical learning into practice.
To be awarded CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health, a student must successfully complete a total of fifteen (15) units of competency.
genU Training delivers the electives listed in the ‘Elective units’ below. These electives have been selected based on industry needs, student pathways and/or student and trainer/assessor feedback. Alternative suitable electives are only available via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT).

Learners will be issued with a statement of attainment for all successfully completed units.
Work placement
To achieve this qualification, a student must complete a minimum of 80 hours of work placement.

Entry requirements

Study requirements
Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate:
- Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
- Communication, documentation and research skills
- Physical capacity for manual handling (this is relevant to disability and aged care courses)
- Access to a laptop or desktop computer, with basic digital literacy skills
Students undertaking blended and/or online training will require intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software.
Workstation setup
You will need a quiet space for study that has stable internet connection. You will also need:
- Web camera, microphone and speakers
- Smartphone
- Earbuds or headphones
- Zoom video conferencing software
Please note: You will need to turn your camera and microphone on, as required when using video conferencing.

CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health can be studied in the following modes and times:
On Campus (day) – Study face to face, in a classroom setting.
- 1 day per week: 9:30am – 4:00pm
Virtual Training Room (day or night) – Study in real time online with instructor-led sessions via video conferencing, supplemented with guided activities via the Learning Management System (eLearning)
- 1 day per week: 9:30am – 4:00pm
- 1 night per week: 5:30pm – 9:00pm
NB: All study modes require students to undertake additional activities, including research activities, reflections and assessments via the Learning Management System (LMS).
Time zones: Virtual Training Room classes run on AEST/AEDT time zones
