Information about Refunds for Fees

Can I get a refund of my fees?

Depending on when you have withdrawn from your units, you may be able to receive a refund of fees for the relevant teaching period.

Prior to the Census Date

If you have made upfront payments for your fees and withdrawn from your units prior to the Census Date, you may submit a request for a refund of fees through the Contact Us tab.

International students who wish to receive a refund of tuition fees prior to commencing their course should contact the International Office for additional details.

After the Census Date

If you have withdrawn from units after the Census Date due to special circumstances (such as serious illness, death of a family member, or natural disaster) where you were unable to continue your studies, you may apply for a remission. If your application for remission is successful, you may receive a refund for student contribution amounts, tuition fees, or HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP debt accrued for the teaching period.

To apply for a Remission, please complete the Application for Remission of Debt in Special Circumstances.

Additional Information

Please note: Open Universities Australia (OUA) students need to apply for a refund of fees direct to OUA.

Please also note: where possible, refunds will be processed via the same method that the original payment was made. Please do not submit any banking details through the Contact Us tab. Student Accounts will request these details if they are required to process the refund.

Please be aware that the Student Services and Amenities Fee and SA-HELP are only refundable where a student has withdrawn prior to the census date and are non-refundable through the Remission process. This process is related to unit withdrawals that have occurred after the Census Date.

For further information or advice regarding refunds for fees, please submit your enquiry to Student Experience through the Contact Us tab, or phone (02) 6773 2000 for assistance.
