June 2022

The ASU has been bargaining with the Surf Coast Shire Council for a new Enterprise Agreement that will apply to all workers at Surf Coast.

Following extensive consultation with ASU members, we developed a log of claims based on what was most important to you:

  -   A wage increase that keeps up with the cost of living
  -   Protections against unreasonable and excessive workloads
  -   Increased entitlements to sick leave
  -   Paid pandemic leave-
  -   All leave taken during covid (since January 2020) to be re-credited
  -   A classification and banding review; and
  -   A number of other conditions and entitlements that are important to ASU members.

At a bargaining meeting on 14 July, Surf Coast Management responded to the claims that have been made, and also made a wage offer:

Year 1: 1.75% plus a one-off payment of $1000 for Bands 1-3 and a payment of $500 to Band 4
Year 2: 2% or the rate cap, whichever is greater
Year 3: 2% or the rate cap, whichever is greater

Surf Coast has also rejected the overwhelming majority of the claims made by the union, but have agreed in-principle to conduct a banding and classification review over the life of a new Agreement.

The ASU is in no way endorsing or recommending this offer to our members.
