Damage from the 2023 flood and cyclone
More than 2,000 slips and issues were reported across the region during the storm events of 2023. Auckland’s overall flood repair programme is expected to take 2 to 3 years to complete and will cost $390 million.
May 2024 update:
- Total sites: 2,003
- Small issues and slips resolved quickly: 1,200
- Further sites identified requiring minor to major repairs: 803
- Of the 803 minor to major repairs needed across Auckland, 517 have been completed to date (65%).
On this page, you’ll find information and progress updates on major road repairs in your community. These are long-term repairs, which means they will take more than 12 months to fix.
We ask for your patience as there remain sites across the region that have sustained significant damage. Locations that have the highest risk, and safety needs, or are the only access to a community, are prioritised for attention.
In some locations, we’ve been able to provide a temporary fix, such as one-lane access to enable access for residents or the wider community, until we can permanently rebuild the road.
We understand road damage is causing inconvenience to residents, due to detours and road closures and want to reassure the community, that we’ve deployed as many resources as possible (including additional contractors) to work on these sites but there are roads that will take significant time to fully repair.
