🏳️🌈🌈 Allies for equality Today, we proudly acknowledge the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). This day, celebrated annually on 17 May, marks the historic moment in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. At Banyule City Council, we stand as allies to the LGBTIQA+ community. Together, we recognise and celebrate the immense strengths, contributions, and resilience of LGBTIQA+ individuals. To honour this day, we held a flag-raising ceremony at our office, reaffirming our commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all. #IDAHOBIT #LGBTIQA #allyship #equality

Along the way, the team inspected current and future projects in Banyule, including the Banksia Street underpass, Main Yarra Trail, sewer works in Yarra Flats Park, the East-West powerline trail, Watsonia Station access, and the North East Link bicycle detours.

Did you know that Australians use a staggering 1 billion disposable coffee cups a year? That equates to 2.7 million cups being used daily! Today, on Earth Day, a day that urges everyone to reduce plastic use, we've asked our staff to consider how they can contribute to this effort and make a pledge by adding a leaf to our Earth Day tree. Here at Banyule City Council, we're committed to building a more sustainable and eco-friendly community by becoming a carbon-neutral organisation by 2028 and achieving carbon neutrality for our community by 2040. To ensure Banyule remains vibrant and green, we're updating our Corporate Emissions Reduction Plan and crafting our first Climate Adaptation Framework.
