Sustainability Champions workshops are organised by the Anglican Diocese of Auckland for volunteer sustainability champions and those in our churches and organisations with an interested in sustainability and care of creation. We are a denominational partner with A Rocha Aotearoa NZ and invite other fellow Eco-Church champions to join us.
In 2024 we will focus on climate justice and living into hope in the midst of the climate crisis. This year, the government is obliged to release the second Emissions Reduction Plan setting out how our country will meet our future emissions budgets. The draft plan will be released close to the middle of the year, and this will be an opportunity to make our voices heard to ensure our country is on track to reducing our emissions.
Common Grace Aotearoa
www.commongrace.nz is a movement of Christians pursuing social and climate justice to transform unjust structures for the common good. They will share with us some of their approaches to meaningful advocacy and ways to support the End Free Credits campaign
www.endfreecredits.nz to remove free carbon credits for big businesses.
Feedback from last year's workshop indicated a strong desire to have more time to hear from each other about the actions we are all engaged in. Therefore the afternoon will be set aside for story sharing and a review of actions taken around the diocese and Eco-Churches over the last 4 years since the AARCC (Auckland Anglican Response to the Climate Crisis) plan was accepted by synod (and Eco-Church was launched). There are lots of good news moments to celebrate and learnings to be had for what worked and what didn't.
The workshop will be held at St Mary's Glen Innes and we are excited to hear from their Green Team!
