Child Safe Induction

Overview

Are you wondering how to communicate the 11 Child Safe Standards to your staff, contractors and volunteers? Worried that you might not be fully informing them about their legal obligations towards children? You wouldn’t be alone. Small arts organisations have so many legal requirements, it’s hard to keep up.

That’s why we developed an online Child Safe Induction.

Using resources, definitions and quizzes, the program takes learners through the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards and how they apply in the dance industry. It also details how staff members can better understand their legal and ethical responsibilities to young people in their care.

The entire program is online and self-paced and takes about an hour to complete.

Why Do Organisations Need a Child Safe Induction?

All organisations that provide services for children must implement the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards to protect children from abuse.

As of January 2023, the Commission for Children and Young People (CCYP) expects organisations to have comprehensively implemented the new Standards. Stronger compliance measures, including the possibility of a fine, now apply for organisations, businesses, and sole traders that do not comply.

The Child Safe Induction is designed to specifically meet Standard 6.3 Victoria’s 11 Child Safe Standards, which states, “All staff and volunteers receive an appropriate induction and are aware of their responsibilities to children and young people, including record keeping, information sharing, and reporting obligations.”

Who Is The Child Safe Induction For?

The Induction is perfect for businesses, studios, or schools that must ensure the 11 Victorian Child Safe Standards are understood by their employees and contractors. Organisations can also utilise the information in the induction to set their own Child Safe Policies.

It can also be beneficial for independent dance professionals such as teachers and choreographers, who want to ensure they understand the Standards and how they apply to the dance sector.

All learners will receive a certificate of completion stating the program date and assumed hours of engagement. This certificate can be downloaded and provided as proof of training and awareness.
