Culburra Beach (NSW 402) commences at the 25 m high Crookhaven Heads and trends south for 3.7 km swinging to the southeast along the southern 1 km. The beach is backed by a 10 m high foredune along the central and northern sections, which in turn is backed by houses and a road that runs to Orient Point and the Crookhaven Head Lighthouse. The northern end has a caravan park together with a car park and picnic area and is patrolled in summer. Down the beach, access is provided across the foredune at the end of each street. In the northern patrolled area, rocks lie on the beach and in the surf north of the car park, and a strong permanent rip runs out past the rocks. The beach receives waves averaging 1.5 m for most of its length, decreasing along the southern section. The central-northern section has a single bar, which is usually cut by rips every 200-300 m. Rocks also occur on the beach at the southern end, however the lower waves result in a decrease in rip occurrence and strength.
Beach Length: 3.7km
General Hazard Rating: 6/10
