2023 Abstracts, Congress Awards, Travel Grants & Scholarships

Join us at the 2023 AMS Congress where you will learn, innovate and share with industry colleagues your Remarkable Reflections on Midlife and Menopause in what promises to be an engaging and memorable 2023 program.

The 2023 Australasian Menopause Society Congress Organising Committee invites authors to submit abstracts for consideration by the AMS Scientific Program Committee. Submit your abstract to be presented as one of the following:

  • 10-minute oral
  • 4-minute rapid fire
  • poster presentation

Abstracts are invited to be submitted on any topic relevant to the menopause and it’s treatment.

Previously published abstracts will not be accepted.

The 2023 Congress will be going ahead in hybrid format again, meaning presenters are able to present online if they are not able to join us in Queenstown, New Zealand.  So don’t miss out! Submit an abstract for presentation at the 2023 AMS Congress now!

Presentation Formats

You are required to note a preferred presentation format.
The committee may request that you consider an alternative format.
Presentations will be allocated to the program taking into account author preference and balance of the program.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS

10 minutes in duration, plus 5-minutes for question time.

RAPID FIRE PRESENTATIONS

STRICTLY 4-minutes duration, plus 2-minutes for question time.

DISPLAY POSTERS

An A0 portrait size poster that will be displayed for the duration of the congress.

A PDF version of posters will also be included in the Congress App and online portal for delegates to view.

GUIDELINES

  • Abstracts must be original and unpublished.
  • You may nominate one of the following formats to present:
  • 10-minute oral presentation with 5 minutes for questions;
  • 4-minute rapid fire presentation with 2 minutes for questions; or
  • Poster presentation
  • The Scientific Program Committee reserve the right to determine which type of presentation your abstract is most suitable to.
  • You must declare potential conflict of interest of any of the study’s authors.
  • Your 200-word abstract should include the aims of your study, brief details of methods, results and key conclusions. Abstracts should be descriptive and concise.
  • Abstracts should NOT contain references, tables or figures.
  • Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged.
  • Selected abstracts will appear exactly as submitted.
  • Industry representatives are welcome to submit an abstract for presentation. The submission should follow the aims, methods, results and key conclusions format. Submissions that are commercially focussed/sales orientated will not be considered.

Please use the following specifications in preparing your abstract:

  • Ensure that your abstract is grammatically correct and free of other errors.
  • Use single spacing for all text.
  • Use a short and concise title that indicates the content of the abstract.
  • Use standard abbreviations. Capitalise the first letter in trade names. When using abbreviations for compounds, spell out the name in full at the first mention. Do not use abbreviations in the title of the abstract.

Abstract Details

For each abstract you submit you will be asked to enter the following information:

  • Presentation title
  • Preferred presentation format (oral, rapid fire or poster)
  • Name/s of author/s
  • Affiliation/s of author/s
  • Indicate the presenter
  • Short biography of the presenter/s
  • Abstract (maximum 200 words)

TITLE

A descriptive presentation title of up to fifteen words; please only capitalise the first word and proper nouns in your title.

AUTHORS

The names, professions, organisations, suburbs, states and email addresses (optional) for each author. Indicate the presenting author in bold.

ABSTRACT

An abstract of 200 words that includes the aims of your study, brief details of methods, results and key conclusions.

Abstracts are due by the 12 June 2023. The receipt of submissions will be confirmed by an acknowledgement email. All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified by 28 June 2023.

PRESENTATION and POSTER abstract submission procedure:

  1. Prepare your abstract
    Prepare your abstract text, maximum 200 words
  2. Enter your contact details
    Click on the Submit Here button (above) to enter your contact details
  3. Select Presentation Type
    Select whether you wish to submit for an Oral Presentation, Rapid Fire Presentation or a Poster
  4. Enter Presenter and Author details
    Enter the names and affiliations of the presenter and authors. Also enter brief biography of the presenter(s), 100 words is the maximum for all presenters.
  5. Enter your abstract details
    ‘Cut and Paste’ the paper text into the relevant field in the online submission process.

Abstracts should not exceed 200 words.

Registration

All presenters will be required to register at the relevant rate for the congress. Presenters will also need to meet their own travel and accommodation costs.

Presentation Files

Video and audio clips should be embedded in your Power Point slides rather than linking to external files.

Presenters will take their Power Point slides to the conference on a memory stick, where an audio-visual technician will load your presentation.

All slides will be run from a central presentation computer. However, if you have a complex presentation, which includes multiple media files, we suggest you bring your own laptop as a backup in case of difficulties loading your presentation.

Publication of Presentations 

AVAILABILITY OF PRESENTATIONS
Presentations will be made available to registered delegates for viewing in the AMS Online Portal and Congress App. Any additional files authors choose to share, as well as any live Q & A/panel discussions will also be available to view during and after the presentation. Access to the Portal and App will be password protected and limited to AMS Congress registrants.COPYRIGHT
If presentations are to be used or published in any other format or forum, your specific consent will be requested. Please ensure you have permission to use any images, music or content within your presentation. If you do not have copyright permission, your presentation will not be able to be used or published. Do not include any images copied from the internet. Getty Images and other image agencies crawl the internet looking for images that have been copied without the appropriate licences.COPYRIGHT OWNERSHIP
Consenting to have your presentation available in the portal and App or used in an alternative publication will not affect your ownership rights. The Congress committee, the AMS or Conference Design will not acquire the ownership rights of your presentation should you agree for it to be included or used.
WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO RECORD OR DOWNLOAD MY PRESENTATION?
During the registration process, delegates must acknowledge and agree to the Congres Terms & Conditions, which include strict rules around unauthorised photography and recording of meeting material. While these measures can be taken, we cannot enforce this rule in an online environment. The assumption should be made that participants may indeed take unauthorised photographs, screenshots, audio, or video recordings, therefore you may wish to adjust the content of your presentation accordingly.Presentations in the portal and App are available only to view and cannot be downloaded.

Awards

All abstracts submitted by AMS members and which are accepted will automatically be considered for the following awards:

Barbara Gross Award

The Barbara Gross Award is presented to the best overall free communication or poster by a current AMS member. All free communications and posters presented at the Congress by a current AMS member will be entered for this award. The winner will receive a certificate of honour and AUD$1,000.

Jean Hailes Memorial Prize

The Jean Hailes Memorial Prize is presented to the best free communication or poster presentation by a current AMS member who is still within 10 years of having completed their tertiary degree. The presenter is to indicate their eligibility for this prize when submitting their abstract. The winner will receive a certificate of honour and AUD$500.

Vivien Wallace Award

The Vivien Wallace Poster Prize is given to encourage delegates who are a current AMS member and working in any area of medicine to submit a poster for inclusion in the 2023 Congress program. This is an annual award to the value of AUD$250.

Judges for the Congress Awards are appointed by the Chair of the AMS Education Subcommittee and there are two judges per room, with a prescribed scoring system. Judges reserve the right to not award a prize if the minimum score is not met.

The Congress Awards will be announced during the Congress Dinner on 2 September 2023.

AMS TRAVEL GRANTS

The AMS will fund two (2) travel grants of $1000 for delegates who have been an AMS member for at least 12 months and who live and work in a rural or remote region to attend the 26th AMS Congress in Queenstown, New Zealand.

AMS Scholarships

The AMS will fund two (2) scholarships for medical students, doctors in training or PhD candidates who have submitted an abstract to attend the 26th AMS Congress.

Scholarship includes:

Full registration to the 26th AMS Annual Congress 2023 including the Pre-Congress meeting

and

One (1) year AMS membership with full member benefits including:
~ Full access to member’s information and resources; ~
~ Monthly eChanges with latest information from journals, conferences and the media; ~
~ Discounts to AMS education and events; and ~
~ Promotion of your practice on the ‘Find an AMS Doctor’ website (if appropriate) ~

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be either a medical student, PhD candidate or doctor in training;
  • Have submitted an abstract for Free Communications at the Congress;
  • Complete the AMS Scholarship Application Form;
  • Provide a letter of support from their supervisor/referee with their application;
  • Provide a presentation to their supervisor or peer group on the highlights of the 26th AMS Congress
