Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act Consultation

Overview

The State Government is committed to divesting the Aboriginal Lands Trust estate into direct Aboriginal control to strengthen communities, foster economic activity and secure improved outcomes for Aboriginal people in Western Australia. 

Targeted changes to the Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act 1972 (AAPA Act) have been proposed to modernise the legislative framework and maximise divestment opportunities for Aboriginal people and entities. The removal of the legislative barriers to divestment will provide an important platform for direct Aboriginal land ownership and management and aims to foster economic, social and cultural opportunities as well as streamline decision making.
