Appointment Pool
We are seeking to establish a pool of Collegiate Principals for appointments to fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during 2024 and up to the end of 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2024, up to the end of 2025.
The Role and our Branch
The Collegiate Principal program supports the Department of Education’s strategic direction to improve support to schools and enhance principals’ connectedness across our system, as outlined in Building on strength: Future directions for the Western Australian public school system. Collegiate principals provide principals of public schools with personalised support for improvement and growth.
We encourage all applicants with diverse professional experiences to apply.
The greatest factors for improving student achievement are effective educational leadership and quality teaching. The challenges that our school leaders face are more complex and ambiguous than ever before, and the role of the principal is vital in creating the conditions necessary for sustained school-wide improvement.
Drawing on their highly developed personal attributes, the collegiate principal will work with principals to ensure a working relationship of professional equals is established and developed. They will also work to build the trust required to encourage self-reflection on professional practice. With a focus on improving teaching and learning across a school, they will provide feedback that results in actionable strategies a principal can use. The role will support and enhance principal well-being and establish greater connectedness across the system.
The collegiate principal provides support to increase the instructional leadership capacity of principals. They will be a:
- sounding board for principals and a trusted source of feedback
- problem solving partner
- broker who can access, mobilise, and maximise resources
- collegiate principals will work with principals in all contexts across the State. Improving the quality of teaching across all schools is a major focus for 2024 and beyond. As integral components of the Department’s school improvement architecture, it is expected that collegiate principals will utilise their expertise and relationships in support of all three components of the Quality Teaching Strategy.
