Information for Businesses
To reduce plastic pollution, the Western Australian Government implemented a state-wide ban on the supply of certain plastic items. Stage 1 of the WA Plan for Plastics was completed 1 October 2022, and implementation of Stage 2 is now underway.
The National Retail Association has been engaged by the WA Government to help businesses prepare for, transition, and manage the bans. This website and resources have been developed by the National Retail Association and the WA Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
The stage 2 bans come into effect in four stages between September 2023 and July 2025.
We note that it is an offence to provide false or misleading information about a Stage 1 banned item from 1 January 2022 and a Stage 2 items from 1 March 2023. It is also an offence to supply or provide a banned item after the enforcement dates, even if you purchased the stock before these dates.
The WA Government and National Retail Association have collaboratively created a Comprehensive Guide for Business. This one-stop resource covers ALL existing and upcoming bans in Western Australia.
The NRA will hold regular online information sessions on the Stage 2 bans from June 2023 and throughout 2024. Click below to register for upcoming information sessions.
