Clean Up Australia Day Activities
On Friday 10th March, Havenlee Students will be doing their bit to “Clean Up Australia”. Each class will be going to different areas of the school to pick up any rubbish.
Attendance
What should I do if my child is late to school?
Lateness or early departure from school is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents or carers when signing in or out at the office. Simply stating ’late’ in the diary will result in an unjustified absence and may result in further action taken by the school.
What are justified absences?
· your child is too sick to go to school
· there is an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
· your child has been injured
· your child has to go to a special religious ceremony
· your child has an infectious illness (e.g. chicken pox, measles or mumps)
· Pre-organised Therapy appointments
What are unjustified absences?
Unacceptable reasons for whole day or part day absences include:
· birthdays
· sleeping in
· traffic
· minding younger siblings or other children
· haircuts
· helping around the house
· shopping
· “family reasons” - needs explanation
These are not reasons for students to be absent from school. They are unjustified absences. It is important to realise that parents/carers may be prosecuted if children have recurring unjustified absences from school.
Always try to make appointments for students with people like dentists or doctors before or after school. Where an appointment needs to be made during school hours and the reasons are unavoidable, or involves a specialist, it is preferable that students provide a doctors certificate. Failure to comply with the Education Act (1990) will result in further action being taken by the school through the Home School Liaison Program.
