QUALITY LEARNING

PRINCIPAL REPORT

Education Week is approaching, it is that time of the year again when we acknowledge and thank our wonderful members of the community through our Central Coast Public Education Awards of Appreciation. The Awards of Appreciation will always remain a great tradition recognising the efforts and dedication of some in each school community.

We are calling for nominations including:

· parents or carers for ongoing school community service recognition

· individual staff members for recognition

Please use the google form to nominate someone from our school community, with a short description for their certificate. DUE BY: Friday 24 June 2022

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS

The Department of Education has provided amended guidelines for Semester One reports 2022, taking into the account the previous health regulations and isolation requirements that may have affected student and staff attendance. As part of the guidelines, the five point grading A-E scale provides information on the student’s learning, however comments are only required for English and mathematics. Comments should identify areas of strength and goals for further development.

I wish to thank the staff for the extensive amount of time and work put into reports this semester particularly with current circumstances. All parents and carers are encouraged to make an appointment with their child’s teacher to clarify or discuss any aspects of the student report. Reports will be sent home to families in Week 10

NAIDOC WEEK

National NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held at Bateau Bay PS in Week 10 (27 June- 1 July). NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. We have many school and class activities planned for this week, led by our Dare to

Lead team, including the opening of our ‘Yarning Circle’. Please look out for further information in the coming weeks.

STAGE THREE SCHOOL CAMPS

A huge thank you to our Stage Three staff and students over the last few weeks whilst they have been on school camp in Canberra. The students have certainly needed the extra layers with the average temps below 10 degrees. Reports back from venues and bus company staff have been extremely positive and students have been a credit to not only the school but their parents. It is not an easy thing to be away for their FIRST EVER school camp!

Thank you to Mrs Moulton for her organisation and attention to detail, and ALL staff who left their own families to ensure our students did not miss out on this wonderful experience

DEMOUNTABLE UPDATE

The temporary fencing placed around the KM demountable has ensured the safety of our students, staff and community whilst an upgrade of painting and fixtures has taken place. All students have not missed any teaching and learning as they have been relocated to an empty demountable. Works are coming to a close with the next demountable being refurbished early in Term 3. We kindly thank and remind all our community to be safe walking around this area.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY TERM 3

On Monday 18 July staff will be involved in our mandatory compliance training in Cyber Security and Code of Conduct, as well as collaborative planning for teaching and learning in mathematics. Staff development days provide unique opportunities for staff to collaborate and improve curriculum, student wellbeing and support practices. Staff return on Monday 18 July followed by all students on Tuesday 19 July.

Outside Providers

At Bateau Bay we strongly welcome a collaborative approach in meeting student needs. For some students, this may also involve referral and discussion through the school’s Learning Support Team. As part of this, we often work closely with outside services such as paediatricians, psychologists, occupational and speech therapists. From time to time an outside service provider may request some assessment or input be provided by the school. Please bear in mind that any requests for assessment will be considered following Learning Support Team discussion and implementation of classroom and/or playground strategies and the formulation and implementation of a Personalised Learning Support Plan if appropriate. There have been increasing numbers of outside providers sending form letters via parents requesting assessment, often by the School Counsellor. At Bateau Bay, our School Counsellor is here 3 days per week which is why prioritising time is essential. If you have an outside provider ask you to approach the school for a range of assessments to be completed, it would be very helpful if you ask the provider to approach the school directly with an explanation of the nature of their request. It would also be helpful if you also speak with your child’s Class Teacher as they can then follow the process for referral to the Learning Support Team. Should the Learning Support Team support the request for completing assessments, any plans, feedback and results can be, with parent permission, communicated with the outside provider.

Teaching and Learning

It has been wonderful getting to know the students and staff here over the last 3 weeks. The classes are a hive of activity each and everyday with students hard at work being provided with opportunities to learn in a safe and welcoming environment. The students enjoy showing their wonderful writing and mathematics work to me and I have enjoyed visiting classrooms seeing the quality work being produced in all areas.

Have a wonderful weekend,

SCHOOL NEWS

PBL Highlights

As part of our PBL framework students are involved in the explicit teaching and practice of PBL expectations. In week 7, students revised how to be safe, respectful and responsible when playing on the oval. Students proved their knowledge, with most students remembering their hat, showing good sportmanship and playing the 'right' way. Everyone should be proud of the way of they returned to playing on the oval after our big break due to wet weather. Thank you for all particpating in our PBL Friday fun Facebook quiz this term! We look forward to continuing this in Term 3.

Congratulations to our week 7 & 8 winners:

NAIDOC Week

During Term 2 Week 10, students and staff will be completing a range of NAIDOC Week activities. This years theme is Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! On Thursday of Week 10, we will be having our large NAIDOC Celebrations with visitors from our neighbouring schools and the AECG coming to join. Students will be involved in a range of activities such as art, dance, cultural face painting and more. We will also be providing students with a sausage on bread at recess as a finish to our celebrations. There will be no charge for this.  A note will be sent out next week for students to opt out of face painting and a sausage sandwich on the day. Please return this note to your classroom teacher.

This week, Jorrel and Mrs Ruggero have been working with our Aboriginal Students on their Personalised Learning Plans. They have been engaging in an art workshop, thinking about our totems, and discussing different ways we can represent our story. Students have enjoyed beginning to customise their art and will continue to work on this over the coming weeks.

Sydney North Rugby League

Kaden Rowe of 5k represented Sydney North for a 3-day Tournament of Rugby League for under 11’s which was held in freezing cold Parkes earlier this month.  Kaden and his teammates played a fantastic tournament only losing one game in their pool games by 2 points. They made it to the semis and lost to East Sydney 20-12 who were the overall winners of the competition. Sydney North then played for a third/fourth position against Hunter with Sydney North winning 14 -10 taking home third place.  Such a wonderful achievement coming 3rd out of all of NSW. Kaden absolutely enjoyed playing this tournament and making new friends from all over the coast and northern beaches.
