SUVA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A wide range of health issues affecting island states are being discussed at the 14th Pacific Heads of Health meeting in Nadi, Fiji's third largest city.

Siale 'Akau'ola, chief executive officer of Tonga's Health Ministry, said Tuesday the meeting will address the current health services in Pacific Island states, which remain fragile due to the pandemic.

He said they will discuss health governance, health information, human resources for health, non-communicable diseases, primary health, and reproductive and adolescent health, reported the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation news website.

The health ministry chief also said their agenda reinforces the heavy responsibilities placed on those tasked with managing national health systems facing traditional and evolving diseases, workforce attrition and resource constraints.

He noted the meeting, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday, will significantly impact the healthcare systems in Pacific Island states.

Outcomes and recommendations from the 14th Pacific Heads of Health meeting will be progressed to the Pacific Health Ministers meeting.
