About the NZ-GRADS

NZ-GRADS is a doctoral scholarship (PhD) offered to science students from developing countries to complete their PhD at a New Zealand university.

For this special round of NZ-GRADS, four PhD projects, aligned with New Zealand priorities on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, have been defined. You will have to select one of the four PhD projects available.
1. Assessing soil carbon changes associated with land management and land use change.
2. Long-term soil phosphorus fertiliser implications for soil nitrogen cycling and Greenhouse Gas emission.
3. Plant and plant/microbiome traits impacting N2O emissions from soil.
4. Climate Neutral Farms (ClieNFarms).

The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) offers a wide range of capability building and research programmes through various partners within New Zealand and internationally. NZ-GRADS awardees will be actively supported through various extension and networking events that the GRA hosts in New Zealand.

The NZ-GRADS is a government-funded scholarship administered by Education New Zealand. The scholarship provides full tuition fees and a living stipend for up to three years.

For selected candidates, the admission to the NZ-GRADS programme is conditional to the following:
Successful candidates will have to apply for a PhD programme from the university associated to the selected PhD project, and fulfil the admission requirements.




Eligibility:

Criteria are non-negotiable:

  • Your PhD study must be conducted in New Zealand (not from a distance)
  • You cannot hold citizenship or permanent residency status in New Zealand or Australia
  • You must be from a developing country. Check here for current classifications
  • You can only apply to one of the available projects.


Required Documents/Information:

To complete this application, you will need to upload the following documents:
  • Evidence of citizenship for every country for which you hold citizenship
  • Meet the requirements to enroll for a PhD programme at the selected University
  • Academic transcripts, grading scale and certificates of completion
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • One page Motivation letter highlighting why you would be the best candidate for the project you selected.
You will also need to provide the names and emails of two academic referees for your references.
