Staff Professional Learning

On Monday, Bonnells Bay PS staff teamed up with staff from Dora Creek and Wyee Public Schools and spent time focusing on Aboriginal culture. Following a morning of planning and reflection on current programs we hopped on a bus and went to learn on Awabakal land. We worked with Uncle Noel from Murrung Murai cultural tours and visited some incredible local sights including Redhead Beach, Cullen Park and Swansea Heads.

It was such an amazing start to Term 2.

 ANZAC DAY 2023

Well done to the students who were able to march yesterday and show respect as we remember and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served and still serve our nation.

Our students represented the school with pride and respect at this important commemoration. There were also a number of students who marched with the Scouts.

Positive Reinforcement System

Our new positive reinforcement system started today. Here is a recap of the note that was sent home at the end of last term:

Daily Points System:

Utilising the classroom behaviour traffic lights, students receive points at the end of the day depending on which circle they finished on.

  • 3 – Super Student
  • 2 – Ready to Learn
  • 1 – 1st Reminder

Students will also earn points for:

  • 2 – Incident free week on the playground.
  • 1 – Positive behaviour during RFF lesson.

These points are recorded daily on Class Dojo. As the points accumulate throughout the year, students are provided with rewards as they reach a new level. These reward days are scheduled for week 10 of every term.

Milestone awards are presented at each school assembly. They will be presented with a merit certificate representing the level they have achieved.

These milestones are accumulative, meaning that if a level isn’t reach within a particular term, then their points will carry over to the next term. Points reset to zero at the beginning of the year.

As we are starting our new system at the beginning of Term 2, all students will start on 75 points.

Parents can access Class Dojo to get daily feedback on where their child finished on the traffic light system. Parents will receive a notification on their Dojo account each afternoon if their child has received one of the required traffic lights. If you do not receive a notification, your child did not meet the requirements for the day.

Social and Emotional Wellbeing

We are very excited by a new opportunity that we have to support our students with their social and emotional wellbeing.

At times your child may have issues with friendships, they may be feeling down on themselves and lacking confidence, they may have had a fight in the playground, or they may be having issues with regulating their emotions or knowing what to do when work is challenging.

Social and emotional wellbeing impacts on happiness, on relationships and on a child’s capacity to engage with learning.

We will be supporting students to develop strategies to improve their social and emotional wellbeing. Mrs Hannah Rothwell is the program coordinator, and she will be running targeted intervention groups for nominated students each week. Students can move in and out of the program as their needs change and their skills develop. If your child has been identified to participate in the first round of groups, they will bring home a letter this week. If you have any question about the program, please contact Mrs Rothwell on 4973 1149.
