Event description

Marist College Ashgrove is pleased to welcome one of Australia’s most accomplished parenting journalists Madonna King and Marist alumnus Detective Inspector Jon Rouse to our campus in September 2023.

The world is a very different place for today’s kids. The crime of sextortion has reached epidemic proportions. Increasing numbers of children and teens are finding themselves caught in an evil web of networked manipulators.

Saving Our Kids delivers the answers we need as parents/caregivers on how we can all protect the children in our lives.

Madonna King is one of Australia’s most accomplished journalists, having won awards for her ABC Mornings current affairs program. She writes across Fairfax, Crikey and The New Daily, and is the author of ten books, including the bestselling Being 14 (ABIA shortlisted for non-fiction book of the year), Ten-ager, L Platers, and Fathers and Daughters.

Detective Inspector Jon Rouse has over 30 years’ service with Queensland Police. He implemented Australia’s first operation proactively targeting internet child sex offenders. Jon is recipient of four Commissioners Certificates for operational leadership, two Excellence awards for Child Protection Prevention, the Queensland Police Medal, the National Service Medal, the Exemplary Conduct medal, the National Police Medal, in May 2018 the ‘Champion for Children Award’ in New York from the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and in 2019 the QLD recipient of Australian of the Year.
