Myths Movement Mark-making And Matinee

Myths Movement and Mark-Making & Matinee is a series of 4 workshops that begins with a traditional indigenous myth by David Unaipon How The Turtle Got It's Shell . In collaboration with the children we will develops the tale into a short play. Facilitated by Ngarrindjeri -Kokatha Dancer and Performer Yvonne Rigney and Visual artist / producer Frances Loriente .
The children are talked through the story in an intimate way similar to being told a story by the fireside. After taking in the story and its messages of care, love and respect for the environment and all its creatures children are invited to explore the narrative and its characters in other art-forms.
Children will be
encouraged to explore the various animals represented in the tale
through movement gesture, narrative and visual representation They are invited to
dance or take a small percussive instrument and move and create sounds
that mirror their chosen animal part and as a group create lines for each animal to reflect their individual characteristics
They will create individual artworks for costumes for their performance and work a create a set up props for their stage.Re-reating the animals habitat where the story is set. They will introduce lighting and music to the set and after learning about timing and places on the stage will rehearse their parts and create a performance for there parents family and friends at the end of the series of workshops .
Geared toward children aged 6-11, older and younger children may participate but children younger than 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a healthy nut free snack and lunch with you for the sessions as there will be scheduled breaks during the workshops.
