We had an exceptional response to the engagement session held prior to Christmas.
A big thanks for all the feedback. We now have a preliminary design which we are putting out for community comment.
This plan will provide a road-map for the next 5-10 years with the support of Northern Grampians Shire Council f
or the guidance and future development in the park. The plan aims to reflect the communities aspirations and vision for recreational, sporting activities, culture and heritage uses within the park.
Key Priorities identified – 2023 engagementThe input from the Great Western community at the end of 2023 revealed the following:
- Upgrade playground (consider relocation of playground, nature play, water, sand, challenging equipment, shade, seating, paths)
- Planting for succession, shade, windbreak, native flora, sensory detail
- Review tennis facilities in NGSC context (upgrade facilities with new surface, 2 tennis courts)
- Improve facilities for children and teenagers – skate, scooter, multi-use courts
- Improved picnic facilities – more picnic settings and inviting materials, accessibility, drinking fountains
- Sculpture Park – winemakers, detail area with water features
- Memorial area to be renovated and preserved
- Improved circulation throughout the park
- Fencing throughout the park
- Improved signage - for directions, safety, connection to the broader region
- Talking book tour of the park and connection to the region – history,culture, and community
- Consider the feasibility of dump point locations – Rec Res/ MemPark
- Consider the feasibility of charging stations
- Consider the feasibility of dog park off-leash
- Consider the feasibility of a Container deposit point location
- Improve general amenity – lighting, seating, path surfaces/width, sightlines, etc
