Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany
Natasha Smith
Natasha Smith has been accredited as Australian Ambassador to Germany since March 2024.
Her career spans over 30 years and includes a broad range of policy, program and corporate roles, in Australia and overseas. Prior to coming to Berlin, she held the position of First Assistant Secretary, Multilateral Policy, First Nations and Human Rights at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Previous postings of hers include Canada (High Commissioner, 2018-2021), Australian Mission to the United Nations, New York (Counsellor Development, 2004-2008) and Jakarta (First Secretary Development), 1999-2001). She was also one of DFAT's inaugural LGBTI Champions.
Natasha Smith holds a Bachelor of Economics from James Cook University. She speaks some basic Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia and is eagerly learning German.
Our Team at the Australian Embassy Berlin
- The Embassy’s Consular team offers passport, notarial and consular services to Australian citizens living in or visiting Germany.
- The colleagues in the Political and Economic section work to deepen our close, cooperative and productive political and commercial links with the countries of accreditation.
- The Public Affairs team fosters the long-standing historical and cultural ties between Australia and Germany, as well as managing the embassy’s digital media engagement.
- Our Administration colleagues look after our Embassy and its staff, including HR, property management and finance.
- Our Department of Home Affairs team manage visa and citizenship functions for a range of European countries, as well as engagement activity on national security, border management and law enforcement policy.
- Our Defence team works on shared defence and security objectives and expanding cooperation with Germany, the Netherlands and Ukraine.
- The Australian Trade and Investment Commission manages trade and investment relationships between Australia and Germany, as well as Switzerland, the Netherlands and Austria. Austrade colleagues are predominantly based out of the Australian Consulate in Frankfurt, which also provides consular, passport and notarial services.

Passport applications interviews and notarial services at the Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate-General in Frankfurt are offered by appointment only and must be booked online. Passport and notarial fees are payable upon lodgement of the application. Fees must be paid in Euro by debit (EC) or credit card.
