Humanitarian Trip to Ukraine-Hungary Border

IN BRIEF:

In the wake of the terrible Russia-Ukraine war, some 250 000 refugees have arrived in Hungary (source ), passing through and finding refuge in border towns.

These towns are overwhelmed and lack the resources, material and manpower to provide for the thousands of refugees who are arriving with next to nothing.

We have planned a humanitarian trip bringing essential aid materials (see list below) requested by the war effort to the Hungarian border town of Zàhony and returning to France with 28 Ukrainian refugees to French safe houses/organised lodgements.

In addition, materials and aid supplies have been donated to relief organisations in France, yet they lack the drivers needed to transport the materials to the Ukrainian border. Hence, as well as purchasing supplies, we will as well be bringing donated materials to Zàhony.

In order to accomplish this aid trip, we need YOUR help.

IN DETAIL:

WHO are we?

Jade Destremau, eighteen year old Australian-French student currently starting my gap year.

Sebastien Destremau, America’s Cup sailor, navigator and journalist.

Marine Bayer, ex-navy helicopter pilot and now nurse.

Élie Hervy, president of classical music association and ex pilot/instructor of sea rescue navy helicopters.

Hugues Herreman, helicopter mechanic.

WHAT are we doing?

We will depart from Toulon, France (our place of residence) in 4 car convoy, two 9-seater vans and two Land Rover Defenders bringing support materials (see list below) to Zàhony and returning with 28 Ukrainian refugees, whom have French lodgements organised or to safe houses in France. Zàhony is receiving upwards of 2000 refugees a day, as it situated on the Ukraine-Hungary train line.

We ask for any assistance possible to raise funds for this trip.

WHAT are we bringing?

- Bedding:sleeping bags, blankets,pillows

- Female sanitary items

- Toiletries:soap,toothpaste,toothbrushes, toilet paper

- Baby items: nappies, formula, wipes,dummies

- Food: non perishables, rice,tinned food,pasta

- First aid items

These will be delivered DIRECTLY to Zàhony for the war effort.

Funds will ALSO go towards FUEL and TOLLS for each vehicle. The round trip is 3600km.

We have calculated that each vehicle (including all material, running costs and food for the refugees we will be returning with) will cost 3000$ AUD at an average. Hence, the four vehicles will cost approximately $12 000 AUD.

ANY AND ALL SURPLUS MONEY RAISED WILL BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE UKRAINIAN REFUGEES WE ARE BRINGING BACK WITH US.

WHEN are we leaving?

We plan to depart from Toulon on March 31 and rendezvous with Hugues and Èlie later that evening in Piedmont, Italy (along the route), before continuing to Zàhony in convoy. The drive time is predicted to be 2 days (1800km, 3600km round trip), hence arriving on the 2-3. We will then pass 2 days at Zàhony distributing the supplies before leaving with 28 Ukrainian refugees on the 6th. We will arrive in France on the 8th, then begin returning refugees to the safe houses.
