Anthony’s major practice area is in the field of Patents and Designs. He has more than 30 years’ experience in providing strategic and commercially focussed patentability advice acting for a wide variety of clients, including individual inventors and start-ups, and engineering and manufacturing companies, as well as large multi-national entities and academic and research institutions.

He particularly specialises in patent advice for inventions in the fields of electronics and electro-mechanical products, computer-related systems and processes, medical devices, telecommunications and ICT products, and engineering/mining equipment.

Anthony as significant experience in providing patentability opinions, in the preparation of patent specifications, and in the prosecution of patent applications to obtain commercially useful Patents for his clients. He also specialises in providing freedom-to-operate and infringement advice, as well as providing validity and infringement opinions and acting in opposition/revocation procedures to challenge Patents/Applications owned by his client’s competitors

Background

Anthony is a Registered Australian and New Zealand Patent & Trade Marks Attorney.

Prior to joining Halfords IP as a Partner in July 2018, Anthony was a Partner and the head of the Engineering Patents Team in the Sydney offices of Davies Collison Cave (DCC) for more than 20 years.

Anthony holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales. With a background interest in medical technologies, Anthony conducted his university thesis designing and developing the electronics and processing circuitry of one of the world’s first digital multi-channel hearing aids. He has since acted for a number of clients in the medical devices and medical diagnostic equipment technology fields, including hearing aids, ophthalmic devices, dialysis equipment, etc.

Anthony does most of his work for start-up entrepreneurs and Australian-based engineering firms, including for mining service companies, medical technology businesses, domestic appliance and other manufacturing entities. He particularly assists them during the initial product development phase, to provide them with commercially focused strategic advice to protect and enforce their inventions and innovations in Australia, US, Europe and Asia, to thereby assist them in the global expansion of their businesses in Australia, US and Europe, and elsewhere overseas.

Anthony is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent Attorneys of Australia (IPTA), and a member of a number of intellectual property associations including the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA). Anthony is also a founding member and director of PATSKI, which is an association of patent professionals from around the world who exchange patent knowledge and information whilst also enjoying skiing and snowboarding.

In his spare time, Anthony enjoys kayaking on Sydney Harbour and snow skiing during the winter months.
