Thank you to all those who responded to the Have Your Say consultation opportunity on the phase out of live sheep exports by sea.

Meetings

The independent panel held 96 stakeholder meetings, hosted 14 public forums and 8 online forums. Face-to-face meetings, online meetings, virtual broadcasts as well as discussion forums were undertaken to provide opportunities for all stakeholders to meet with the panel to discuss the phase out.

An update from the independent panel consulting on the phase out of live sheep exports by sea provides an overview of what was said during the consultation. It includes information on stakeholder engagement, what the panel heard, information on market trends, as well as stakeholders' suggestions and the panel’s next steps.

Submissions received

The panel received more than 4,100 submissions including more than 800 written submissions and more than 3,300 survey responses.

The submissions, which people have given permission for publication, are available to view and have been divided into 3 groups.

Hundreds of submissions have been received. Submissions are sorted alphabetically in zip folders noting downloadable file size.

The submissions are published in accordance with the privacy declaration completed by the person making the submission. The submissions provided to the department by third parties have been published in PDF format. The submissions marked entirely confidential have not been published. What happens next

The independent panel considered the feedback from public consultations (verbal and written), as well as expert analysis on the potential economic, agronomic and other impacts of the phase out. The panel provided its report with advice and recommendations to Minister Watt on 25 October 2023. The government is considering the report’s findings and recommendations, as well as next steps. The Minister and independent panel thank all stakeholders who provided input into how and when the phase out could be implemented.
