The Almond Board of Australia (ABA) will officially open its Almond Centre of Excellence (ACE).

Up until now the 60 hectare experimental and demonstration orchard has been owned by the South Australian Government.

As part of the celebration an open day is being held at the site (57 Anderson Road, Loxton North).

Associate Professor with the Cooperative Extension, University of California Davis Florent Trouillas will be presenting on trunk diseases in almonds, as part of his regional tour with the ABA.

You can find out more about the following projects happening at the orchard:

  • The University of Adelaide – cover crop program and breeding evaluation trials
  • ABA -Bee Friendly Farming, irrigation, bird scarers, autonomous tractor, lysimeter, biostimulant trial and rootstock evaluation
  • SARDI – rootstock/scion compatibility, optimised density, and soil amelioration trials
  • Plant and Food Research trials – high-ultra high density plantings, architectural studies and pruning responses

Attendees will also hear from almond industry suppliers about their new developments with products and services.

Gates for the event will open at 7:30am, with the field walk beginning at 8:30am. The official opening of ACE will get underway around 10am.
