Fourier Intelligence Shapes Future of Rehabilitation Technology at the 2023 Beijing Rehabilitation Medicine Annual Conference

BEIJING, CHINA, 22 November 2023 – Fourier Intelligence, a global technology company specialising in rehabilitation robotics and artificial intelligence, was recently invited to participate in one of China’s most prominent conferences – The Beijing Rehabilitation Medicine Annual Conference. Held at the Beijing National Convention Centre, the event is considered a distinguished congregation point for experts, scholars, and core enterprises in the rehabilitation industry, where they gather to discuss and share new insights and technologies.

The two-day conference aims to elevate research standards, fostering deeper collaboration and integrating rehabilitation technology in the country. Fourier Intelligence, renowned for its commitment to innovation, was honoured to showcase its dynamic range of rehabilitation solutions, focusing on upper, lower, balance and movement. With a global presence and over 2,000 installations worldwide, Fourier Intelligence provides cutting-edge solutions in rehabilitation, aiming to empower therapists and patients alike.

Among its diverse range of rehabilitation robotics solutions on display, the ArmMotus™ EMU was one of the key attractions. Functioning as a three-dimensional upper limb rehabilitation robot, the ArmMotus™ EMU uses an innovative cable-driven technology and lightweight carbon fibre materials to reduce friction during therapy. Simulating the arm support from a therapist with its force feedback technology, the device allows the therapist to focus on other tasks while allowing the patient to complete three-dimensional upper limb movement control and training.

Catering for the lower limbs, the ExoMotus™ M4, also the 2022 IF Design Awards winner, turned heads with its body-weight support frame. Unlike other exoskeletons that require patients to have upper body strength and use crutches, the device has a vertical degree of freedom that allows users to practice ambulation with a natural gait pattern. With an ergonomic balance frame and multiple harnesses for added safety, patients can confidently engage in therapy without fear of falling, which can often hinder recovery.

Picture 3: Combined with biomechanics and assessment, the PelmaMotus™ can accurately and quickly assess the functional status of the foot, posture, and balance.

Further diversifying its portfolio of advanced rehabilitation robotics and AI, the PelmaMotus™ focuses on balance assessment and training by adopting a large area of pressure sensor array, high-speed acquisition circuit, and intelligent analysis software. Combined with biomechanics and assessment database, PelmaMotus™ can accurately and quickly assess the functional status of the foot, posture, and balance. It also provides targeted, immersive, and interactive gamified training.

“Collaboration is key to advancing the rehabilitation industry, as it enables industry partners to forge closer ties to share knowledge and technology for the betterment of the sector. We welcome opportunities to participate in such conferences to share knowledge and build bridges between academics and industry players to drive innovation within the field,” said Zen Koh, Co-Founder and Global CEO of Fourier Intelligence.

With the advancements in robotics & AI, the rehabilitation technology industry is set to enhance the treatment process for patients and therapies. This will allow for more efficient and innovative methods in the coming years.
