Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung People, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we come to learn.
We thank them and their ancestors for looking after this land for thousands of years, and for their kindness and courage in sharing it with us in the present.
From the Principal

On Monday April 25th our School Captains (Harper, Bethany, Jaxon and Raghav) represented our school beautifully when they laid a wreath at the Arch of Victory morning service. The ANZAC service at the Arch took place at 8am and recognised 47 pairs of brothers from the Avenue of Honour who lost their lives in World War One. Two sets of these brothers attended the original Urquhart Street Primary School.

The term ahead
Earlier this week I sent out to families on Seesaw a run down of dates to be in your diaries. They are also in this newsletter. We are very excited to be able to welcome parents back onsite for a couple of events this term. Please keep an eye out in the newsletter and on Seesaw for information related to these.

Honey
On Monday ‘Honey’ the therapy dog started working in our school for the morning. She spent the morning in different classrooms and with some of our students. Honey is a Golden retriever and her owner Jacqui is always with her when she is onsite at Newington.  Honey will be back next Monday, please say hello if you see her.

NAPLAN
On Tuesday and Wednesday next week our Year Three and Five students will be participating in their first two days of NAPLAN online. It will be important for the students to be at school on time so they have time to ease into their day and be settled before the assessments commence.  Parents with any questions regarding NAPLAN can contact the office.

Traffic around Newington
The safety of our students continues to be of our highest priority at Newington. It has been brought to our attention that a number of parents are parking illegally before or after school. We do ask parents to please take their time when parking and to find the appropriate place to park to collect your child or to drop them off.
