Dear ACCESS Community,
Welcome to our second edition of ACCESStory. Here at ACCESS-NRI we’ve been continuing to work to establish ourselves, and to recruit our core team of Research Software Engineers. An important recent milestone was the release of the ACCESS-NRI Strategic Plan, which is now available for download.

|
This plan sets out our goals and objectives for the next 5 years, and is aimed to give ACCESS users a clear idea of what they can expect from us.
One of our current priorities is to provide a place where we can collate documentation on ACCESS model activities. With this newsletter we’re announcing the launch of the ACCESS-Hive, a portal that will allow both community users and ACCESS-NRI staff to provide documentation to describe how our models and other systems operate. The intent of the Hive is that it will grow organically to be a reliable and up-to-date information source. It will also provide a Community Forum which will permit you to post questions or discussion topics, or to learn from questions posted by others (a sort of ACCESS-based stackoverflow).
As ACCESS-NRI takes shape, we are working to formulate the mechanisms that will help us to engage with the community. An important part of this engagement is the formation of Community Working Groups – these groups are intended to provide an interface between the researcher community and ACCESS-NRI. They will provide feedback on the modelling systems and associated tools, and suggest directions for future development. Importantly, the working groups are community-driven, which means that they will depend on input from all of you. We conducted a recent survey of interest in these groups and can see a clear path to establishing our first working groups early in the new year. Please stay tuned!
November this year has turned into a festival of conferences in the weather/climate modelling space, which means that I will likely see many of you over the coming weeks. In particular, ACCESS-NRI will host a booth at the upcoming AMOS conference in Adelaide. If you’re attending, please feel free to drop by and say hello,
Andy

Reporting on the ACCESS models framework use is a key performance indicator for ACCESS-NRI. This enables us to record how and where ACCESS is being used, and helps us to continue to be funded to deliver these services. Read how to do it here
