A Prized Icon filly with a pedigree page packed with black type has found another reason to attract the attention of buyers at the 2024 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.

The stylish chestnut is the third foal from the winning Street Cry mare Persia, whose broodmare credentials received a significant boost when West Of Dalby claimed the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben on December 2.

Both West Of Dalby and Persia are from the dual Listed winner Chinchilla.

Persia's daughter is Lot 1314 and is among six yearlings in an impressive Kooringal Stud draft for the Magic Millions, which start on January 9 and run through to January 16.

"This filly has always been a standout - a lovely strong filly with great presence," Kooringal Stud's Angus Lamont said.

"The fact West Of Dalby has won at Stakes level really helps with being a nice current family."

West Of Dalby has made amazing progress in a short amount of time for Kembla Grange trainer Ben Smith.

The Santos filly started her campaign as a Class 1 horse and just five outings later has a black type win to her name.

West Of Dalby's owners include Kooringal clients Tory Lavalle and Tony Bertuccio.

"West Of Dalby came to Kooringal following her purchase at the yearling sales and after her breaking in prep where she always possessed a great quality about her," Angus said.

"It doesn't surprise me at all that she's stepped up to Stakes level already, she furnished into a beautiful filly."

Another yearling from the draft who is sure to turn heads on the Gold Coast is a Headwater colt from the proven producer Miss Cacciatore.

Miss Cacciatore is by Snitzel and has had five winners from six runners.

Casa De Lago has shown the way for Miss Cacciatore, winning five races and being stakesplaced in the TRC Strutt Stakes.

Miss Cacciatore has also been represented by the Hong Kong winner Run The Table and the Melbourne placegetters Jamarra and Hanibal Hero.

Kooringal will also be offering two Sandbars, a son of Dirty Work and a Harry Angel colt.

"I'm very happy with the draft ... we've got a nice range of sires, some lovely types and hopefully get some good results for ourselves and clients," Angus said.

Wagga trainer Doug Gorrel is aiming high with the promising Asgarda.

The four-year-old daughter of The Brothers War was a runaway winner at Albury on November 10 and was then sent to the paddock with the SDRA Country Championship Qualifier in mind.

Gorrel is hoping to have Asgarda at her peak for the $150,000 event over 1400 metres at Albury on February 18.

Asgarda is part-owned by Kooringal Stud, which stands The Brothers War (fee on application) alongside dual Group 1 winners Merchant Navy ($13,200) and Prized Icon ($8800), the flying Finance Tycoon ($11,000) and superbly bred Sandbar ($8,800) in 2023.

Gorrel has an excellent strike-rate with The Brothers War progeny.

Another of his consistent performers Military Manoeuver is by the War Front stallion.

Military Manoeuver has had 13 starts this preparation for three wins and two placings, while he has also finished fifth on four occasions.

The bay blitzed his rivals as favourite over 1675 metres at Wagga on December 2.

Telecom Fighters emphasised his toughness with another Happy Valley victory in November.

The seven-year-old, who is also by The Brothers War, notched his 10th win to go with his 11 placings from 44 appearances.

Telecom Fighters was exported to Hong Kong in 2020 after starting his career with Mark Gee at Goulburn.

The latest success took Telecom Fighter's earnings beyond A$2,500,000.
On Friday December 1, we celebrated the wedding of Georgina Lamont, the youngest daughter of Stuart and Penny, to Tom Green in the garden at Kooringal. It was a wonderful day with family and friends with the weather also playing its part!
