Dear Parent/Carers,

Here we are at the conclusion of week 11 of Term 1. What a busy and productive term we have all had with many changes, especially regarding COVID 19 practices. It’s been communicated throughout the term, but we are sincerely grateful to you all for adapting and co-operating with the COVID-19 safety practices, including completing daily Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT). We are exceptionally appreciative to families and staff for reporting any positive results to the school so quickly, this in return has allowed us to communicate with you the Daily COVID updates. Teamwork has certainly never been so important, and this quote sums it up. “The team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion”.

We have received an update that we will resume RAT testing for the first 4 weeks of Term 2. This Friday your student will have RAT tests sent home with them, so they are able to test before Term 2 commences on Tuesday, 26th April 2022.

In staffing news, next term Sammy Reicha our Primary School Acting Assistant Principal will be going on maternity leave, we wish Sammy all the very best. Troy Gardiner, our Curriculum Assistant Principal will be overseeing the Primary School. Cameron Pentland will continue as Acting Leading Teacher for the Primary School. Other staff going on leave at the end of this term are Chris Lees, Elly Johnstone, Jess Zippel, Jenny Wood, Lee Appleby and Donna Gray. Staff that are leaving BSS to pursue new positions are Matt Wilson, Patrick Devereux and Leah Cray. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anyone, so my apologies if I have. To all the staff that are either leaving BSS, or taking various types of leave, we sincerely wish you all the very best.

As we say goodbye to some staff, we welcome some new faces to BSS in Term 2. Marni Spark will be working in administration at Gillies Street, Corey Leeners and Allison Jess will be working as Education Support in the Junior School, Stephanie Ashley will be the new art teacher at Gillies Street, and Danielle Stanley will be working as an Education Support in the Middle school.

This newsletter is all about celebrations, and we certainly have lots of student achievements to recognise this term. Every day our students continue to amaze us with all they do, and are a true representation of resilience. We hope you all enjoy reading these special stories from across the mini school’s and other areas of the school.

Happy Easter and we hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. See you all in Term 2.

Kind regards,
Principal Class Team

Senior School Term 1 Celebrations

How great is it to have a full term of face-to-face teaching and learning?! Our students in the Senior School have once again made great progress in working towards their individual goals. Outlined below are a number of students who staff would like to recognise for their success throughout Term 1.

From SPLC1 we have:
Declan L for conquering his fear of heights and climbing the mine shaft whilst on our recent excursion to Sovereign Hill. Well done Dec.

Jasmine W-T and Jayden C-C: Well done Jasmine for obtaining work at McDonalds and Jayden at Hungry Jacks. Both students did a fantastic job and put in a great amount of effort in applying for their jobs and being the successful applicant. Well done and good luck.

Tiarah H who attends VET at another school, is working diligently on her VET course work and seeking assistance from us. Tiarah is also involved in music, Senior Band and Senior Dance and assists others in extra activities. She has attended school every day this term.

In SPLC2 it is great to see ALL the students have settled in. They follow instructions and have great days!

Dennis C was awarded Highly Commended for his artwork at the National Youth Week Art Exhibition earlier this week.
From our internal VET courses, we have:

Ben L, who is a star student. Ben completes every task we ask of him without objection or complaint. He cleans and polishes the kitchen to a high standard. He is always curious and asks great questions. Ben is pleasant and helpful to everyone including staff and students. He worked very hard to get everything completed and ready to go on time for the big catering job we had last week. He's a champion and a very welcome addition the Hospitality team this year.

Hannah T has been building her confidence in her solo singing abilities and has SMASHED her latest song selection. Hannah was able to sing completely independently with only a backing track, keeping time and maintaining consistent pitch. Hannah was able to sign off her song and contribute to our '100 Song Challenge'

Josh B, Kade H and Declan L have commenced their Cert II in Active Volunteering (Project Ready). They are to be commended for their work on developing and identifying personal interests connected to the workforce.
