DEAL regional stimulus measures

The DEAL team has been working with many East Arnhem businesses to understand the impacts of COVID-19 restrictions on their operations to ensure we can respond in the most effective way and keep businesses open and people in jobs.

From both a public health and economic perspective, the safest thing we can do is to try and stop COVID-19, and the impact it has on communities, in getting here at all. While travel and trading restrictions have meant that some businesses have already been impacted or have had to temporarily close, many are still able to operate. At this time, it is critical we are all spending local to keep businesses open and cash flowing into the regional economy.

To support this, we are pleased to announce the details of DEAL’s two regional stimulus measures: the Gove Give Back Voucher and Unlocking NT Stimulus.

   Gove Give Back Voucher

In partnership with a range of Nhulunbuy-based businesses, we are excited to announce the Gove Give Back Voucher. This initiative rewards those shopping at our local businesses, by giving them more cash to spend at their favourite shops, cafes and restaurants. At our easy to use online store, you can buy vouchers for all participating businesses. To redeem them, all you have to do is print off your voucher or show it on your phone when you make your purchase.

Vouchers are available in a range of denominations, and all give you extra cash to spend locally:
  • $10 voucher purchase = $15 to spend locally
  • $25 voucher purchase = $35 to spend locally
  • $50 voucher purchase = $70 to spend locally
  • $100 voucher purchase = $140 to spend locally
  • $200 voucher purchase = $280 to spend locally
Importantly, even though some of your favourite local businesses have had to close temporarily, you can support them by buying vouchers now to spend with them when they are able to reopen.

The Gove Give Back Voucher online store is open now and ready to help you support local. Voucher numbers are limited so don’t miss out!

  Unlocking NT Stimulus

The Northern Territory Government is delivering a $120 million Jobs Rescue and Recovery plan to help keep Territorians in jobs and cash in the economy in response to the impacts of COVID-19. There are three main stimulus schemes in this plan:
  • The Home Improvement Scheme provides vouchers for home owners to undertake improvements on one of their properties and applications open on Monday 6 April.
  • The Business Improvement Grant provides vouchers for business owners to undertake improvements and upgrades to their premises or facilities and applications on Monday 13 April.
  • The Immediate Work Grant provides funding to not-for-profit and community organisations to undertake works on their premises or facilities and applications open on Monday 20 April.
There are requirements in each of the schemes for the applicant to provide a financial contribution. We know in these uncertain times some home owners, businesses and organisations may be reluctant to spend.

For this reason, DEAL is incentivising East Arnhem businesses, organisations and home owners to access the stimulus schemes by matching the contributions you must make to unlock these stimulus measures. Our aim is to encourage people to access available funds and maximise cash flow into the East Arnhem economy.

For both the Home Improvement Scheme and the Business Improvement Grant, DEAL will match up to 50 per cent of the required contribution from the applicant. For the Immediate Work Grant, DEAL will make a financial contribution on a case by case basis.

We have prepared fact sheets on each stimulus scheme and what financial support DEAL can provide you to access these (subject to availability of funds). If you need assistance to complete your application, the DEAL team is available to support you through the process. Once you are ready to apply, you can register your interest in receiving a contribution from DEAL here.

If you are a local tradie or contractor and have not yet registered to deliver projects funded by the NT Stimulus, you can sign up here.
The most important thing we can do during this time is to support each other and our local businesses. At DEAL, we want to make it easier for you to do so. Our region is resilient, and our community spirit is strong. We look forward to helping you support our East Arnhem businesses and the economy during this challenging time.
