Climate Emergency Conversation Workshops
Wednesday 30 May 2018, 5.00-9.00pm, Shire Hall, 284 Gower Street, Preston OR Friday 1 June 2018, 12.00-4.00pm, Function Room, 350 High Street, Preston
How should Council have conversations with the community about climate change which encourage and support residents and groups to take long-lasting and meaningful action?
Darebin Council is keen to build support for strong action on climate change in our local area.
Council has recently adopted a Climate Emergency Plan which highlights our commitment to taking urgent action to make our planet safe for ourselves, our children and future generations. We want to work alongside our and other councils so that together we can influence those organisations which have the greatest power to take action to respond to the climate emergency.
To make sure that our communications messages and methods of engaging the community and others result in meaningful and long-lasting action, we need your help! Please come along and help us work out what language and messaging is going to work best in conversations about the climate emergency.
We are asking our community to work with us on this because we know that so many of our community members will bring creative ideas, interesting insights and good thinking to the task, and it is this input which is really going to make sure that our communications and engagement work hits the mark!
Light refreshments will be served.
Book here for the session on Wednesday 30 May, 5.00-9.00pm, and book here for the session on Friday 1 June, 12.00-4.00pm.

World Environment Day
Thursday 7 June, 2018, 6.15pm-8.45pm
Preston Town Hall, 284 Gower Street, Preston
Join Darebin Mayor Kim Le Cerf and a panel of experts in celebrating World Environment Day 2018, with a double-screening of The Smog of the Sea and Baykeepers on Thursday 7 June.
The Smog of the Sea and Baykeepers tell similar stories from very different perspective – one from the remote Sargasso Sea and the other from right here in Melbourne’s creeks, rivers and bay. Both serve as a perfect example of World Environment Day’s theme in 2018: Beat Plastic Pollution.
Darebin City Council is embracing this message and has recently introduced its own Single-use Plastic Free Events Policy, aiming to prevent plastic pollution by ensuring that all Council events eliminate single-use plastic waste and promote reusable alternatives.
Our panel of experts will present their thoughts on this topic, and offer attendees the chance to pose questions about our community’s journey to reduce waste and eliminate single-use plastic.
This event is free but bookings are essential.
