A new vision for parking in Darebin
Council is developing a new parking strategy and we want your feedback on how parking in Darebin should be managed in the future.
Darebin's population is growing and space is limited, including road space for car parking. If we don't change our approach, Darebin will need to add 2.3 MCGs worth of car parking every 10 years. So we're developing a new parking strategy. It's along term, ambitious plan that will shape how our roads are used.

Watch the Climate Emergency Conference presentations online!
Last year, Darebin Council presented the first-ever national climate emergency conference hosted by local government.
The conference brought together councils, other levels of government, business and organisations to identify strategic and urgent action, with appropriate scale and speed to deliver a safe climate.
The high quality and diversity of speakers, and the many interesting and inspiring perspectives from which the topic of climate emergency was examined, provided so much food for thought.
In case you missed the event, you can browse the Climate Emergency Conference Program, and watch many of the presentations online.

Darebin water map is your go-to for water projects in Darebin
There are many projects that the City of Darebin and community are implementing to help save water and clean our waterways. Some of these might be right outside your door, in your local park or at your library!
The Darebin Interactive Water Map has been created to help you discover what different water projects are happening in your area. You can use the interactive map to explore projects like raingardens and wetlands and find information on how they work. Visit the map here to start exploring.
Council is committed to Darebin becoming a water sensitive city. To do this we focus on integrated water management and consider the whole water cycle. This means we’re looking at things like how water comes into Darebin from rain, taps, drains and waterways, where and how it leaves Darebin, how we use water, and what alternatives there are for water use.
This interactive water map is one step that helps Darebin become a water sensitive city. Through the water map, our community can learn more about what we’re doing and our integrated approach to water issues.
To find out more on how Darebin is becoming a water sensitive city, see our Water Strategy Watershed: Towards a Water Sensitive Darebin and Implementation Plan.

Moon Rabbit Cafe is winning the war on waste!
Moon Rabbit Café in Preston has fully embraced social and environmental values in its daily operations. Nothing gets overlooked when it comes to closing the loop on waste and applying the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste minimisation principles. Saying goodbye to disposable takeaway coffee cups, food containers, plastic drink bottle and straws is just the start.
Café supervisor Samantha Fisher and staff have enthusiastically trialled many different approaches to managing their food waste to find solutions that work. All staff are trained in segregating and tracking waste which is easy to implement thanks to clear signage and separate containers for different waste streams. Cooked food goes into the Bokashi bin and excess raw food that is not fed to one of their three worm farms is collected and added to local residents' compost, worm farm or fed to their chickens. Food waste ‘customers’ were found through waste sharing app ShareWaste, aimed at connecting people and keeping food waste out of landfill.
Moon Rabbit Café also runs a training program which readies young people who have a diversity of needs, with life-changing results. Read more here.
Moon Rabbit Café is at 218 High St, Preston.

What's your climate story?
The Australian Conservation Foundation is inviting people to share their climate stories.
The results of climate change are everywhere. Record breaking heatwaves and drought, bushfires in tropical rainforests in Queensland, coral bleaching, insect borne diseases, geopolitical instability.
The media reports on these stories every day, but too often fails to connect them to climate change.
The Australian Conservation Foundation is keen to shift the public conversation, put climate change on the front page, and demonstrate the urgency for climate action.
You might be a snorkeller, a skier, a gardener, have an elderly neighbour who suffers through heatwaves, or be witnessing climate damage at your local park or beach. If you have a story to tell, a photo to share, a comment to make, the Australian Conservation Foundation want to know! Please contact them here.
