Have your say on the future of Greater Hobart

Hobart is the world’s best small capital city – a city built for people that is connected, friendly and safe.

A long-term vision that protects and enhances these characteristics while planning for future growth has been released for community feedback. Covering the Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and Kingborough council areas, the new 2050 Vision for Greater Hobart aims to reflect the uniqueness of the four cities that make up Greater Hobart, and also what interconnects these communities.

The draft vision is based around six themes that contribute to making Greater Hobart a great place for people. The themes cover community and natural environment, coordinated planning, transport connections and future-proofing our city, people and economy.

A public feedback period is now open on the new vision, which will guide development and planning across Greater Hobart for the next 30 years to ensure it grows to be a thriving and an inspiring place to live.

Greater Hobart is already home to around 199 000 people and is expected to reach 227 000 residents by 2040. Integrated planning and development is vital to protecting what we love about our city.

Developed collaboratively by the Greater Hobart Committee, comprising the four Greater Hobart councils and the State Government, the 2050 Vision for Greater Hobart will also guide the development of Tasmania’s first MetroPlan to better align strategic land use, services and infrastructure planning across Greater Hobart.

This is your chance to help shape the future of Greater Hobart.
