Happy New Year!

Welcome to the first issue of Golfing NSW for 2023.

The premier event on the NSW Amateur golfing calendar is currently in progress, with some of the best amateur players from the state, country and internationally competing for the title of NSW Amateur Champion. The event culminates a month of major amateur events across the state, including the Master of Amateurs, the Australian Amateur Championship and the Avondale Medal. Check out all the results below.

In this month's issue, read about how:
  • NSW State team alumni Kelsey Bennett has kicked off her professional career with a bang
  • A mother and grandmother are inspiring the next generation of golfers
  • The aces were flying recently at Russell Vale Golf Club
  • You can win one of three prizes of two dozen all-new Srixon UltiSoft golf balls
...and more!

Thank you to our subscribers who entered the December competition. The question was:

Australia's Christmas Island has an amazing annual migration of which creature?

The correct answer is crabs. At the start of each wet season, millions of crabs migrate from the rainforest and down cliffs to spawn in the ocean. Later, the baby crabs return to re-inhabit the forests.

Congratulations to Kenny Munro and Robyn Strang, who each won a Srixon Travel Cover with wheels - happy travels!

We hope you enjoy the issue...and happy golfing!
Srixon has launched the all-new UltiSoft golf ball.

UltiSoft is true to its name as the ultimate golf ball for softness and feel. It's the lowest compression ball in the Srixon lineup, delivering unmatched performance on every strike.

The foundation of the all-new Ultisoft is the FastLayer Core technology - a unique design that adds distance while maintaining that signature feel - powerful distance with maximum softness on every strike.

The 2023 NSW Amateur Championship is underway at Pennant Hills and Ryde-Parramatta Golf Clubs. The first two days of competition saw the men compete for the NSW Medal and the women for the NSW Strokeplay trophy. On day one, NSW representative Chris Fan (pictured) took an early lead with a fantastic score of eight under par...with eight birdies on the back nine!

Fan held on to claim the biggest win of his amateur career, taking out NSW medallist honours after a sudden death playoff. Surfer's Paradise Haruhi Nakatani claimed the Women's stroke play crown from fast-finishing NSW Representative player Belinda Ji (pictured).

Today marked the start of the Match Play portion of the event, which will continue until Friday and determine the 2023 Men's and Women's NSW Amateur Champions. Click here to watch the men's and women's leaderboards live.
Congratulations to the golfers joining the St Hallett Hole-in-One Club this month, including Greg La Peyre from Northbridge Golf Club (pictured).

A big thank you to St Hallett wines for their ongoing support and prizes for all winners, including an exclusive St Hallett Hole-in-One cap, a bottle of St Hallett wine and a commemorative certificate.

January has been a busy month for Australia's leading amateur golfers, with a series of World Amateur Golf Ranking events taking place over the last few weeks. And for the first time since COVID-19, the fields at each event have seen the return of some of the world's best international competitors from the USA, England, Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Singapore and more.

One of the season's highlights so far has been the dominant victories of NSW's Jeffrey Guan and Claire Shin (pictured above) at last week's Avondale Amateur. Guan and Shin blew away the competition to finish well ahead of the field - Guan with a five-shot victory over England's John Gough and Shin finishing seven shots ahead of South Australia's Amelia Whinney.

Click on the links below for all the news and results for each event, and congratulations to all the NSW players who have enjoyed some great success!
