A STORY OF CHANGE, CHALLENGE AND INNOVATION

A new book, written to celebrate the NZ Meat Board's centenary, takes you behind the scenes to find how the New Zealand red meat sector has used a mix of collaboration, ingenuity, innovation and sometimes number eight wire to survive and thrive through a 25-year period of volatile political, cultural and economic uncertainty. The hallmarks have been spectacular improvements in productivity, farmers and processors working together, the challenges for agri-food production from demanding markets around the globe - including shifting trade flows for New Zealand red meat from west to east - the development of world-leading farming approaches, science and insights, cultural shift and earning a social licence.

Research by co-authors Ali Spencer and Mick Calder has included interviews with over 50 key people including Sir Graeme Harrison, Jeff Grant, Mike Petersen, Tim Ritchie and Craig Hickson.

Meeting Change highlights the many innovations and strong characters and covers the sector's “rather extraordinary culture” and events in an easy-to-read, accessible style.

Find out all this and more in Meeting Change: the NZ Red Meat Story 1997-2022.

A must read for the meat sector … Meeting Change is a book rich in detail that covers the hugely complex saga of the revolution and evolution of the meat industry during the last 25 years.

If [farmers] need a refresher course on how the meat industry arrived at such lofty heights, Meeting Change: the NZ Red Meat Story 1997-2022, written by Ali Spencer and Mick Calder, will suffice ... Spencer and Calder are the ideal authors, having lived through most reformulations of industry bodies and their strategic plans.

… it will be the 'go to' book for those interested in analysing the past for very many years to come. It will live with pride in the archives of NZ.
