Murdoch Grading System: Grades of Units

What does the final grade/result for my unit mean?

 ** Please note that ALL grades will appear on your academic transcript, not just passed grades **
 

Final Grades of units which award grades (most Murdoch units) from 1 February 2023:

 HD  High Distinction: 80-100%
 D  Distinction: 70-79%
 C  Credit: 60-69%
 P  Pass: 50-59%
 N  Fail: below 50% (where a student has failed an Essential task, the Final Mark may be  higher than 49%)

Final Grades for units which only award pass or fail:

 UP  Pass
 UF  No Mark 

**Final Grades - pre 2023

DNS Fail: The student failed to participate in assessment components that had a combined weighting of 50% or more of the final mark

Final notations grades from 1 February 2023:

RPL Recognition for Prior Learning
AW Approved Withdrawal – University has approved the withdrawal of a student’s enrolment after the census date without academic penalty.
UW University Withdrawal – University has initiated the student's withdrawal due to disciplinary proceedings, or failure to make a payment. 
AS Academic Safety Net

**Final notations - pre 2023

WD Withdrawn before "first date for withdrawal with fail recorded" - appears on Transcript as Withdrawn - fee liability incurred and does not affect GPA

Interim notations from 1 February 2023:

GP Grade Pending
SA Supplementary Assessment (to be arranged by the Unit Coordinator)
SX Supplementary Examination (to be conducted by Exams Office)
DX Deferred Assessment – Examination 
FCR Forward Credit

**Interim grades - pre 2023:

 G  Good standing
 NA  Not available
 NS   Not submitted
 Q  Deferred Assessment

 

2020 Academic Safety Net Grades

Any passing grades achieved during this teaching period that have a negative impact on your GPA will be changed to a special grade and will not count towards your GPA

   HD   High Distinction
  ASD   Distinction special grade - will NOT negatively impact your GPA
  ASC    Credit - special grade - will NOT negatively impact your GPA
  ASP   Pass - special grade - will NOT negatively impact your GPA
   AS   Fail - This will NOT count towards your GPA

2021 Academic Safety Net Grades

In 2021, the Academic Safety Net provided protection against fail grades (N and DNS) only. If you engaged with your studies but failed a unit in 2021, it will be changed to the special AS - Academic Safety Net grade. 

2022 Academic Safety Net Grades

In 2022, the Academic Safety Net provided protection against fail grades (N and DNS) only as it was the case for Academic Safety Net 2021. See our Academic Safety Net 2022 FAQs for more information.

 

Withdrawn Units - see Teaching Periods for dates:

W0 Withdrawn before census date - does not appear on Transcript - no fee liability incurred
AW Withdrawn after the census date but before "first date for withdrawal with fail recorded" - appears on Transcript as Approved Withdrawal - fee liability incurred but does not affect GPA
 N  Withdrawn after "first date for withdrawal with fail recorded" - appears on Transcript as a Fail - fee liability incurred and does affect GPA
