Accelerating Clean Energy Transitions and Resilience

in Pacific Island Countries

This workshop will gather a broad set of stakeholders to collaboratively act in response to the Pacific Forum Leaders’ statement on the just transition to a Fossil Fuel Free Pacific.  Attendees will include utilities, regulators, community representatives and beneficiaries, government, developers, and funders (investment and donor institutions). Speakers and interactive working sessions will advance innovations needed in policy and regulation, technology,  training, project development, and finance mobilization to accelerate the transition to a cleaner and more resilient future. Dialogue will emphasize on-grid systems that can be grid-connected or isolated/islanded in the event of a grid disturbance; a companion event for off-grid and mini-grid systems is expected in May 2024.

Attendees and speakers and interactive working sessions on Nov 14-15 will advance innovations needed in policy and regulation, technology, training, project development, and finance mobilization to accelerate the transition to a cleaner and more resilient future. Training on Nov 16 will include  project development of solar, microgrid, energy efficiency, and energy storage projects from concept to construction.

The workshop is organized in several interlocking themes to advance the clean energy transition: framing and motivations for a just transition, government and regulation, technology and workforce development, funding and financing, applications and end users, and project development. The workshop will also include grant writing, advice on projects, and a demonstration of tools and processes to rapidly move clean energy projects from concept to construction.
