NT Health Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards

The 2024 NT Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards is a prestigious event recognising the hard work and dedication of our nurses and midwives. This year the Awards celebrate the 20th anniversary.

The much anticipated Nursing and Midwifery Gala Dinner night is held to announce the award winners and celebrate those who’ve worked incredibly hard to keep Territorians safe and healthy over the past 12 months.

Held this year at the Mindil Beach Casino Resort, the Gala Dinner is hosted by Hon, Selena Uibo MLA, Minister for Health with Amy Culpitt as our Master of Ceremony.

Guests will be treated to celebratory drinks, a delectable three course dinner, awards ceremony and live entertainment from Vinyl Candy.

This event is an opportunity to shine the light on all nurses and midwives working in services across the Northern Territory and thank them for all they do.

This award aims to recognise a Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing/Midwifery (RUSON/M) (previously known as Assistant in Nursing/Midwifery) whom have shown exceptional potential during their time in the role.

The role of the RUSON/M is a role specific to NT Health and employs second and third year nursing and midwifery students to increase their clinical exposure and consolidate their studies.

Panel assessment

  • An independent panel with extensive experience in nursing and midwifery will review nominations.

  • The selection process is confidential and final. The panel or chair are not required to provide feedback to the nominees or nominators.

  1. The awards are open to all nurses, midwives or nursing and midwifery teams working in any specialty area or health care environment.

    This includes:

    • public and private sectors
    • primary health care
    • rural and remote
    • aged care
    • education
    • research
    • private practice
    • non-government agencies.

  2. Who can nominate?

    • the general public
    • colleagues
    • managers
    • employers.

  3. Self or family member nominations will be not be accepted.

  4. Nominee’s must be:

    • registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
    • employed in the Northern Territory as a nurse or midwife at the time of nomination or within 12 months of the nomination date.

  5. The Registered Undergraduate Student of the Year is only open to student nurses employed as Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing/Midwifery/Assistant in Nursing/Midwifery with NT Health.

  6. Excellence in Aged Care Nursing award is open to nurses working in an aged care facility and/or community programs.

  7. Nominee’s for the NT Administrator’s Medal are not required to:

    • be currently employed as a nurse or midwife
    • hold current registration.

  8. A nurse/midwife may be nominated in more than one category.

  9. Previous recipients are ineligible for nomination 2 years after receiving an award.

  10. Nominators are required to address the specific award question in the nomination form.

  11. Incomplete nominations will not be considered and will be deemed ineligible.

  12. Nominations are only accepted via the online nomination form. No other methods will be accepted (e.g. email, printed hardcopy paperwork, phone call etc).

  13. All nomination submissions become the property of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Office.

  14. A nomination will be withdrawn if a nominee is found to have a record of unprofessional conduct.

The awards are essential to maintain and improve engagement with the nursing and midwifery workforce, businesses and wider community. You do not have to provide your personal information but if you choose not to, the awards team will be unable to progress the nomination.

The information you provide will be accessible to the Northern Territory Department of Health and the awards panel assessors, and will only be used to deliver the 2024 awards. We will not disclose your personal information to third parties unless:

  • authorised or required by law to do so
  • you have given us your consent to share your personal information for a specific purpose.
