On-demand Event

The forgotten mourners:
How grief and bereavement affect older people

Organiser Banner

Overview

The APS hosts this activity with the APS Psychology & Ageing Interest Group (PAIG).

Older people are more likely to encounter grief, losses and bereavements than any other age group, yet they are also less likely to seek and find the right support. It is important for healthcare professionals across all settings and disciplines to identify older people struggling with grief and enable them to access help.

By using case studies and moving examples of grief poetry, this on-demand activity aims to:

  • draw attention to grief- and bereavement-related challenges faced by older people compared to younger age groups,

  • provide an overview of different types of grief and address relevant grief theories such as the stage model of grief and the dual-process model, and

  • build skills in knowing how to support and respond to grief in older adults.

Level of Learning

Foundational. This activity is targeted to those new to the topic.

Duration of access

Access to the recordings and presenter slides is for 12 months from the date of confirmed registration.
