Bushfires

Australia is extremely vulnerable to bushfires. We are expecting more intense and frequent bushfires because of the effect of climate change.

The impact on communities can be devastating; human lives, community infrastructure, wildlife and forestry can all be destroyed. But while the threat of bushfire can be frightening, there is a lot that people can do to protect themselves and their families and communities.

Preparing for bushfires, both physically and psychologically, and building resilient communities, can help to protect communities from the worst impacts.

Preparing for bushfires

This information sheet outlines the importance of being psychologically prepared and provides the steps for psychological preparation when a bushfire is threatening.

Recovering from bushfires

Bushfires that have threatened communities are highly distressing. But there is a lot that family, friends, volunteers and community members can do to help people to look after themselves and those affected by disaster.
